Fish 1st Edition Is Official. But With a Delay.

Taclaco's LIFE Report: July 2026

Fish & Aquatic Invertebrates 1st Edition is confirmed to be released this year. LIFE TCG made the announcement on July 9th, but the release date moved from June (as was previously communicated) to October. I was surprised by this four month delay after they met their timeline target for the Mammals Special Edition.

But Why the Delay?

LIFE says the delay comes down to new EU packaging laws that took effect recently. That’s a different kind of delay than we’ve seen from them before, previously delays were caused by manufacturing and shipping timelines. My guess the law is the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2025/40).

I get why people are frustrated because I am as well. This delay hurts the momentum that LIFE has built over the last year. I would understand if the delay was the result of something outside of their control, but it’s not. The law was passed last year and as a company that sells worldwide (which in itself creates a lot of regulatory risk) they should have had processes in place to react sooner.

The one piece of good news in all this: LIFE confirmed sharks are in the set, and confirmed there are a lot of them. That was one of the most requested things from the community, so there’s a silver lining for you.

Does This Push Birds SE Too?

Most likely, yes. LIFE’s release calendar was already tight before this delay, and I don’t see how a four month slip on Fish doesn’t impact whatever’s scheduled next. I’d bet on early 2027 instead of Nov/Dec 2026 for the Birds Special Edition, though nothing’s official and I’ll say I’m wrong if LIFE proves me wrong.

LIFE says the Birds Special Edition will carry the same full art artwork as the 1st edition, some collectors call it a “reprint”. That’s different from Mammals SE, where the extended arts had to be added because the original Mammals set never had them. Birds already had full arts built in, so this is LIFE keeping the artwork consistent rather than refreshing.

Looking Ahead

October is the date to plan around, though I’d hold that loosely given LIFE’s track record. I’m watching for two things over the next few weeks: an update on the Mammals photo set timeline and any movement on the Birds SE timeline.

P.S. - Still hunting for more California Condor holos. Let me know if you have any available!
